Since I am the first in the whole family to wake up on Daled Shevat (credit to the time zone) I am taking this opportunity to wish Esti and Shimon Fogel a huge Mazel Tov on their wedding anniversary.

Me too. I´m baaack!
Hi Guys! Just got back today and I was so excited to read all the new posts and comments (WHO IS 770?)I will add my comments to all the latest soon....
We had a fantastic time and are very proud of ourselves that we managed to vacation IN Brazil. The first week was spent touring Curitiba which is a very pretty city with gorgeous parks and we then went to a "Xacara" (pronounced Shacara) for 5 days which in essence is a small farm with cows, horses, ducks, goats, sheep, cats, dogs, fruit trees and a lake + a swimming pool---really beautiful. The kids had a blast (they even milked the cow) and we are all nicely suntanned. The only glitch was that Shmuly didn´t realize that the cows MOO doesn´t sound like a moo at all and he walked around the whole time saying "Ich hob Meira di MOO"!! The kids of course loved spending time with their aunt and uncle and cousins.
and we are now back to the grind.....

GREETINGS FROM THE HOLY LAND
I see Rochel Leah is keeping you all posted about our whereabaouts in the world.
Well Sunday we decided that we would really like to take a visit to Israel. Well within 24 hours Yitzchok had our flight book for Tuesday. Talk about last minute planning:)!! B"H we managed to get out of the house and board the plane right before the gates were closing. We are now enjoying the beautiful weather and trying to get over our jetlag. In about 2 hours we will be off to pick up the rest of the Gourarie crew (father, mother, Yirmiyahu and Moishie).
Goodbye till next time!
Hindy

winter is finally here!
It is amazing how cold it is outside. on my way to Getzy's school my fingers almost fell off. Getzy's birthday celebrations lasted about four days. We spent Shabbos with our Rubashkin grandparents and had a Melava Malka in Getzy's honor. On Sunday we had a Birthday supper with the Friedman cousins. Finally on tuesday we had a Birthday party with his class, we are all birthdayed out.
Hindy and Yitzchok decided to go to Israel on sunday, found a space on the plane (they had an open ticket) ,and left moday morning. My parents and Moishie are on their way today, and we are holding up the fort here. In a week from tomorrow my sisters are coming to spend winter vacation with us , we are so excited . We are G-d willing going to Israel in three weeks, Yippee. If anyone has any tips for us please reply. anyway I am off to pick up Getzy. since I am not that computer literate I will post some birthday pictures when Dovid comes home.

This 'N That
Shimon, both Michoeli and Chana are on vacation - go easy. And Yossi, well, don’t expect him to post anytime soon.
Here's what’s happening (And soon to happen). I went to LA last week where I played the Duchman/Altein wedding. Got into a fight with the party planner by the name of L.R. Doubt she'd recommend me anytime soon. She didn’t like my response to her directive at the Chupah, 'Play now', to wish I responded 'When it’s the correct and appropriate time to play, I'll be sure to start'. She threw up her arms in disgust and in a bitchy LA twang screamed, 'who’s this guy?!' This set the tone the tone for a fun evening. I was very impressed with Mendel Duchman. He runs this wonderful children’s' minyan - I was blown away. I stayed at my good friends the Maryles's. I met a wonderful and delightful woman by the name of Pepper Jay. She doesn't believe that NASA actually landed on the moon. Interestingly, she had never read Deception Point. I sent her a copy as soon as I retuned to NY. 'Twas a very interesting evening. The Lubavitch Shul in LA sucks big time. It's a bad imitation of 770 on a bad day. Not a soul greeted me. (Probably because I wasn't sporting a nose ring and a Rastafarian hairdo).
I am producing my first show. On March 10 R.C.C.S. is sponsoring an evening of 'Erev Chabad'. A concert of Chabad music introduced by speakers and such. I'm bringing in a violin player from Israel, Mordechai Brodsky. We're renting a Baby Grand, which will be played by Gershon Wachtel. An upright bass player and a drummer will accompany. Should be fun. Wish me luck.
Oh, today I received the invitation to the CIC dinner, which I hope to attend. I'll post a full report on these pages afterward. (Shimon, can I take pictures?).
Other than that, please visit Chabad News Online for your weekly News telecast

SKF Can't Get His Blog Act Together...But Neither Can You!!!
Shimon...Still using Esti's Blog Space...
I know all of you are busy...very, very busy. But surely you can take a few minutes every couple of days to add a comment to the blog. Of course, being a recent convert, I am over-zealous; however, now that I appreciate the value of Avremi G's efforts, I faithfully check every day and alas, no new news...
Okay, it's true. At first, I was only checking to see if there were any witty posts related to my contributions. But now, I truly look for new posts that will open a little window on what you are all doing. So I now stand with the Music Man. Either you start demonstrating some consistent support for this Blog, or I am joining Avremi in a boycott.
Hope to see your posts tomorrow.

Ottawa Update
SKF Still Piggybacking on Esti's Blog...
So it's 4:30 am and I'm waiting for Moishele to get up so that he can make his flight back to Toronto. He just had an off Shabbos and his mother missed him so much, I had to lobby for special reshus for him to come home for Shabbos. Everything went well and s/he had a lovely Shabbos together. Unfortunately, his flight back Motzei Shabbos was over-sold and he was bumped. I don't know if he was more excited to have another few hours at home or whether his pachad about Rabbi Oster's reaction trumped his excitement. I think it will be more than a few weeks before he can again receive a weekend pass.
On to other news...we are looking forward to a visit from a special guest. Yes, Avremi G is planning a quick trip to attend the CIC's Parliamentary Dinner. In his honour, we are pulling out all the stops, including a special presentation from Asi Cohen - Israel's foremost comedian. If you want to check out his sense of humour, go to You Tube and in the search field type in "interview", "priest", "Israel" and "comedian". I will leave live reporting from the event to Avremi.
I'm back from the airport and Moishele is safely tucked into seat 1-A. So if all goes well, Rabbi Oster will not have noticed he did not get back last night as agreed. Oy the pressure...
Not much else is doing on the Ottawa front. But just to authenticate that I am really writing from Ottawa, let me tell all of you grasshoppers that under Esti's steady and able supervision, we are just about Pesach cleaned! We are not quite at the stage of eating in the basement...that will come into effect immediately after Purim (which is a shockingly only 7 weeks away!). Truth be told, I don't even know why we are cleaning for Pesach, since ever the counter-culturalists, we are going to Australia for yontif!
Okay, now there is really nothing left for me to say. I still have another hour left before I can daven, so I will take advantage of the quiet, head downstairs, grab a ma'amar from the Alter Rebbe, adjust myself in a (really the only) comfortable chair...and chap a drimmel for 30 minutes ;-) Hope you are all well.

Hello
Hey everybody. I have not contributed in a while, although I check the blog everyday. Getzy and Baby Hindy really keep me on my toes. This sunday G-d willing is Getzy's second birthday. He loves telling anybody who will listen that he is turning two (that is, while he is holding up one finger, we are working on that). If anyone in the metropolitan area is ever looking for something to do at night ( other than sleep) Dovid and I just went ice skating in Bryant Park (42nd and 6th ave.) we had a really great time. Anyway have a great day.

Shimon' Update
Shimon continuing to blog on Esti's account...
As is her wont immediately after completing preliminary Brochos etc..., Esti went to the family blog only to find that no one had bothered to contribute a post since last Wednesday. Anxious to keep the momentum going, she prevailed upon me to jot down a word or two to move things along.
So, we a re recovering from Shabbos - during which we were tried on many fronts. First, our (other) world famous Chazzan was away for Shabbos, so every Yossele wannabe competed for top honours...The general consensus was that chalk on a blackboard is infinetly more preferrable to semi-literate Carelbach afficianados singing Kedusha to the tune of Uncle Moishy...
Worse, in deferrance to RL's desire to populate our Shabbos table with guests (like the traditional Malochim aren't enough) we again capitulated and entertained at lunch. The shul president (who is plotting his own impeachment) no less. Well...lunch turned into shalosh seudos...then into melave malka... Why do we do this? We don't even get a tax deduction for such mesiras nefesh!
Now, alas, we are back to the mundane world of the week. On tap today: decipher Esti's to-do list; offer support to RL who is doing school assignments well beyond my ken; organize the Parliamentary Dinner and Policy Conference, which is quickly approaching on February 5-6 (BTW, Avremi and Yossi: please email your mailing addresses and complimentary VIP invitations will be forwarded forthwith). Avremi, Asi Cohen (the priest interview) is doing a skit for the event. For those of you who don't know Israel's foremost comedian (after Ehud Olmert), you can check him out by going to You Tube and type in the key words "priest", "interview", "Israel", "comedy" in the search field. He is going to do an interview with Canada's Foreign Minister. I will either get a promotion (to exactly what, I don't know...) or fired! (That Shabbos hosting may come in handy...Bina Foundation "head's up").
Okay...now that I have convinced you all that I have precious little to do, I better head off and do it. Hope this stimulates greater minds to add a post or Postville...whatever. A gutte voch!
